What does social media have to do with workspace strategies?
As an entrepreneur and CEO of my company, I’m constantly thinking of new ways to grow the business. What can we do differently to get an edge? How do we find more clients? What services can we add to increase revenue?
Build The Next LinkedIn?
A few months ago I had this grand idea to build a social network…wait, that sounds familiar! But “my social network was going to be a niche for my industry” – imagine that! We had it all figured out, or did we? So we hired social media experts SoMeGo to develop a strategy that we could implement to build our social network. We had a series of fact-finding meetings and conference calls with the SoMeGo team where they asked a lot of really good questions. About a quarter of the way through the engagement and after much research and deliberation they suggested we go in a different direction. Technically they asked if we would consider going a different direction, but they’re the social media experts, so I took it as a suggestion.
No, Build Brand Awareness
They went on to explain that building brand awareness through social media should be the first phase of our social media strategy because it will directly affect our bottom line quicker than investing the time and resources it will take build a sustainable social network. The social network, IF we decide to build one in the future, would be a future phase in our overall social media strategy.
In their research, the SoMeGo team found that we needed to build top of mind awareness with more of our target market by engaging them. Notice I didn’t say cold calling them. To build brand awareness you’re really building a relationship with your target market. To build a relationship you have to provide value. No one cares about the services we offer, they care about finding answers to their questions – solutions to their problems. The SoMeGo experts suggested we begin by blogging about the problems our clients face and the questions they have. Convert the information in our heads into digital format so everyone can learn from our experience and expertise.
So our social media strategy involves providing solutions. We can do that right? After all ‘solutions’ is part of our company name. We’ll blog, and tweet and share, and will absolutely encourage comments and questions.
This is our first blog, and I hope that we’ve answered at least two questions you may have had before reading this: 1) Should I cold call via social media? No; and 2) Who should I call for social media consulting? SoMeGo
Over the next couple of weeks I will blog about workspace options for mobile workers based on my personal experience mobile working in London. I will also share more insight into our brand awareness campaign through social media which includes unifying three service brands under one corporate brand. You will see the results of this when you read my next few blogs…
